Erdogan Basol was born in 1936 in Istanbul, Turkey. His first cartoons appeared in 1952 in magazines "Karakedi" (Black cat) and "Hafta" (Week). Since then his artworks have been regularly published in local and foreign press. Until recently his political cartoons were published in daily newspapers "Aksam", "Gunes", "Cumhuriyet", "Barometre" and "Global" and currently he publishes mainly in the magazine "Degisim". Erdogan Basol presented his artworks at solo exhibitions in Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Argentina. He took part with his friends in forming the group "United Cartoonists" in 1975 and participated in group exhibitions in 1975 and 1978. He won various prizes at the following International Cartoon Contests: Marostica: Tolentino, Vercelli, Fano, Foligno: Itri (Italy), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Harbour (Australia); Deajon, Seoul (Korea); Haifa (Israel); Gabrovo, Sofia, Ruse (Bulgaria); Taipei (Taiwan); Piracicaba, Porto Allegre (Brazil); Sokobanja (Yugoslavia); Blato (Croatia); Carlsbad (USA); Beijing, Shanghai (China); Tehran (Iran); Hyderabad (India); Suceava (Romania); Porto (Portugal), Paraguacu (Paraguay); Zurich (Switzerland); Ideas City (Mexico), Kiev (Ukraine); Strumica (Macedonia). Erdogan Basol was a jury member of the Contest of Nasreddin Hodja in 1975, 1997, 1999, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Some of his cartoons have been selected to permanent collections of the Cartoon Museums in Italy (Tolentino), Poland (Warsaw) and Bulgaria (Gabrovo). He issued two cartoon albums. "Karmakarisik" (1984) and "Kelamsiz" (2001). Erdogan Basol was elected as the chairman of the Association of Turkish Cartoonists for one year in 1995. The Association of Press Information headed by the Prime Minister of Turkey honored him the Prize for endless contributions to the development of the art of cartoon in Turkey over the last 30 years.
